David English 1940 – 2010

1940 – 2010

After being a professional soccer player in England and working as a training manager for Nestle, David  started his photo industry career at Hanimex . He became the divisional manager for Hanimex Photographic Products  before joining H. Bleakley & Sons in the mid 1970’s – the then distributer of Canon products in Australia. While David was working as sales manager, the company was purchased by the J. Arthur Rank organisation,  before in 1979 becoming Canon Australia. He continued as the Photographic Division manager until taking early retirement in the mid ‘80s due to ill health.  He was succeeded by  Ian Thresher, his long-time sales manager and David moved to live on the New South Wales South Coast where he enjoyed a small hobby farm.David will be fondly remembered as someone who had a great dry sense of humour, formed from his early years in England, and enjoyed nothing more than a lunch with friends and colleagues.  He worked tirelessly for the betterment of the industry and was a PIC board member for a number of years.
