Congratulations to Loud and Luminous 2020 Artists.
100 Australian female photographers unite for powerful exhibition and a celebration of equality with International Womens Day Conference and Sydney exhibition in 2020
|Earlier this week the 100 names were released that will collectively form the 2020 Loud and Luminous exhibition. This is the third year that Australian image-makers have come together to make a strong global statement through photography.
These inspiring and diverse photographic artists from across Australia between 10 to 92 years of age, will use the power of photography to shine a light on equality with a Canberra conference, Sydney exhibition, Multimedia releases, and a book that will sit in the National Library of Australia.
The Loud and Luminous project celebrates and recognises the important contributions of contemporary female identifying photographers in Australia. A multimedia presentation of the 100 images will be released to celebrate International Women’s Day 2020 on the theme of equality.
A Canberra conference will be held on 6th March 2020 with ticket profits going to support artist development opportunities with exhibition and mentoring with Contact Sheet Gallery. Last year’s recipients Helga Salwe, Suellen Cook, Tricia King, Tamara Whyte, Elise Searson will also open their powerful Re Generation exhibition at Photo Access in Canberra on 5th March.
Conference speakers include Megan Lewis, Paul McDonald, Cherie McNair, Jenny Templin, Ella Dreyfus, Denise Ferris, Helen Ennis, Sally McInenery. Further details will be released in January 2020 at www.loudandluminous.com.au
The 2020 Exhibition will be held in Sydney at Contact Sheet Gallery in April. The exhibition program includes opening events, a community block party on 3rd April and artist and educational programs over the course of the exhibition. “Last year we had over 2500 people through in one night, and this year we are planning something even bigger. The exhibition is a must-see, and we want to welcome as many people through as we can “ Ms Wardhaugh said.
Project co-curator Melissa Anderson said one of the main aims of Loud and Luminous is to bring female artists together for an inclusive discussion that celebrates diversity and promotes cultural change and equality across all areas.
“The stories told in the 2020 exhibition address important social issues, it is both a celebration of equality, and also a brave statement of what still needs to change.” Ms Anderson said.
“While this is an Australian initiative, the messages extend internationally on equality and empowerment,” said Ms Wardhaugh
Loud and Luminous is incredibly appreciative of the generous support they have received from Fujifilm Australia, Kayell Australia, Canson, PPIB, Momento Pro, Damian Caniglia Photographer, Print2Metal, and Contact Sheet Gallery.
