Dean Collins Down Under at Photo Imaging Show Australia ( September 2001)

Dean Collins Down Under at Photo Imaging Show

The PICA Photo Imaging Show will feature a series of presentations by world-renowned professional photographer, Dean Collins.

Dean will be making his third trip to Australia to join the Photo Imaging Show at Sydney's Darling Harbour, Friday April 5 to Saturday April 7, 2002 in a special deal put together by PICA, AIPP and the ACMP.

"This will truly be the show's highlight", said AIPP president Eric Victor. "Dean is the most exciting and inspirational photographer on the circuit today. His knowledge and skill in handling digital images is only surpassed by his ability and willingness to share his knowledge. This is an event not to be missed."

ACMP President David Simmonds is equally enthusiastic about Dean Collins' forthcoming visit. "Having experienced Dean's last time Down Under I have to say that his presentation still stands out. Most importantly as a commercial photographer whose work is destined for the printed page, Deans thinking and approach ten years ago was way ahead.

"I can't wait to see and hear how he as embraced the digital age. Not only for capture but on the important issues of scanning file preparation and the labyrinth of proofing and colour matching.

"To call ourselves professional in today's market we must be knowledgeable about the whole process and Dean's talks will be of great benefit to all photographers in Australia."

The presentations will be open to all professional photographers and booking arrangements will be announced very soon on the PICA website: www.photoimaging.com.au . Early bookings will be essential as the show theatre has only 288 seats.

For 20 years, Dean has been educating photographers around the world with his informative and entertaining lectures, videos and publications. He has developed dozens of terms for lighting and the behaviour of light. Because of his influence on the speaking circuit, these terms are now in standard use among photographers everywhere.

Among the techniques that Collins has developed and taught are all aspects of digital image management and working with Adobe Photoshop, the theory of 3-Dimensional Contrast, Darkroom and ISO Standardization for black and white photography, and Chromazones, a system that enables photographers to create predetermined coloured backgrounds with precision.

His discussion of creating great photographs with one light is the heart of understanding the mechanics of light, and is a seminal study in modern photographic lighting.

In addition, Collins is Executive Producer of "Photographic Global Notes," which has been published in six languages, and features images and step-by-step instructions from 36 of the world's most innovative photographers.

Collins has earned the world photographic industry's respect as an educator, technical innovator and photographer.

In addition to his live appearances in the last three years, Dean has produced four unique digital photography and Photoshop tours in video format, which have travelled to 36 cities every year.

Further information will be released shortly.
