The Board of PURE (Photographic Uniform Regulations for the Environment) has announced revisions to the Code of Practice. These have been posted to the PICA website and are now available for free download from www.photoimaging.com.au
Paul Curtis, the Chairman of PURE, said the revisions were the result of a series of discussions and reviews with water authorities around Australia.
"Many water authorities hold PURE as a prime example of industry cooperation, " Paul Curtis said. "We are in the fortunate position of having a very active consultant, Brian Winch. Brian is, in turn, very well supported by the major chemical distributors and the Australian office of the PMA."
A key aspect of compliance with the PURE Code is to ensure that every lab has a trade waste certificate from the local water authority and that it disposes of chemistry in accordance with the water authorities' requirements. In the majority of cases around Australia, these requirements are a result of consultation with PURE.
Home processing does not require a trade waste certificate, but all chemistry in home use should be properly diluted before disposal.
