INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2019
LOUD AND LUMINOUS CONFERENCE
100 Australian Women Photographers create powerful imagery for International Women’s Day 2019
2018 Loud and Luminous Book will be presented to National Library on International Women’s Day 2019, (8th March 2019) at Canberra, Loud and Luminous Conference.
One hundred diverse women photographers across Australia aged between 10 to 90 years old have come together through photography to celebrate International Women’s Day. The photographers have created imagery on the topic of women and power, to empower and inspire women globally.
The project involves a print exhibition, multimedia, book, and International Women’s Day conference to continue the discussion of equality, women and arts. This project is unique and encourages women to tell their stories to contribute to our cultural identity, and acknowledges the importance of all stories.
This project is the brainchild of two photographers, Melissa Anderson from Brisbane, and Hilary Wardhaugh of Canberra. Project co-curator Melissa Anderson of Brisbane says “Photography changes the world. Equality is everyone’s business, we need an inclusive discussion and a collective voice to respond, to make a better world for all”. “We have been completely overwhelmed by the support we have received for this initiative, and are so appreciative to all,” says Hilary Wardhaugh.
An amazing line up of speakers are speaking on IWD in Canberra on March 8th at Australian National University, and the print exhibition and 2019 book launch will open later this year .
Speakers include a cross section of photographers, artists, curators, gallerists, eucators, photo editors, mentors, festival organisers and photojournalists. It will also feature trade representation from the sponsors of the event.
The speaker line up includes: Mags King, Anne O’Heir, Michael Reid, Professor Denise Ferris, Carly Earl, Cassie Trotter, Moshe Rosenzveig, Dr Judith Crispin, Juno Gemes, Jeff Moorfoot, and Sandy Edwards.
